Welcome to Hypnotherapy by Isobel
  (Dip.Hyp.ISCH   Reg GHSC)

Hypnotherapy by Isobel does for your mind what a massage can do for your body. My techniques are safe, easy and amazingly effective!

I believe that your mind, like any other muscle can become knotted or stressed and I can help you to untangle it!

Some people may feel nervous at the thought of visiting a Hypnotherapist but would think nothing of having a massage. During a massage you are required to lay down, close your eyes and allow the therapist to work on your body. You must place your trust in your masseuse - Clinical Hypnotherapy works on the same principle.

Should you feel uncomfortable during either massage or hypnotherapy you can simply open your eyes, get up and walk out. You are in control at all times!

About Isobel  . . .

Isobel's Picture

I have worked successfully as the owner of  Massage by Isobel for over 25 years. During that time I had become increasingly aware that I was treating the “symptoms instead of the cause” of many problems my clients presented to me.

Stresses and strains in everyday life take their toll both physically and mentally. I wanted to find the truly holistic treatment that would better support my clients’ needs.

I have held a long-term fascination in modern Clinical Hypnotherapy during which time I have spoken to many of its practitioners, read widely about it and witnessed its incredible results. So, finally, I decided to qualify and become an accredited, registered Clinical Hypnotherapist.

Now I love every minute I spend using these amazing techniques and feel passionately that, at last, I offer a complete healing programme for your body and mind.

Clinical Hypnotherapy

From the day we are born we are constantly learning.

Mostly we learn things that are beneficial to us but more often than we would like, we learn things that can damage or cause us difficulties: A teacher may ridicule us which in later life may lead to a fear of public speaking, or we may think we will “fit-in” with the cool kids if we learn to smoke. Teasing and bullying teach low self-esteem and loss of confidence . . .  the list is endless.

Negative thoughts, bad habits, irrational fears and phobias can get “stuck in your head”

BUT that which has been learned can be un-learned.

Clinical Hypnotherapy is a structured discipline which can help you to bring about the significant, beneficial and long-lasting changes that you desire quickly and easily, so freeing you of these behaviours in a safe and natural way.

A professionally trained and qualified Clinical Hypnotherapist will consult with a client to gain a full and clear understanding of his/her concerns. They can discuss the best options and mutually agree a treatment programme. The programme will be tailored to meet the client’s specific needs and will include powerful tools such as hypnosis, guided imagery, mental/physical relaxation techniques and positive suggestion therapy.

Hypnosis

Contrary to popular belief. the hypnotic state is not one of deep sleep but is quite the opposite – it is a state of heightened awareness. It is induced by using the power of suggestion which works on a subconscious level to enable positive changes to take place.

It is very important that the client is fully committed to the proposed treatment programme as the subconscious mind will not accept suggestions that it does not agree with.  It is impossible to hypnotise someone who does not wish to be hypnotised.

Hypnosis is a deeply relaxing, pleasant experience – a lot like deep meditation, or that lovely feeling you get just before falling asleep. You will be aware of what’s around you and what the therapist is saying to you. If at any stage you feel you want to end the session, you can do so by simply opening your eyes. When the session is finished you will awaken feeling refreshed, empowered and re-energised.

Each person’s experience of hypnosis is unique to them but no one can be hypnotised against their will.  Nor can you be made to do anything you disagree with which maybe against your ethical, moral or religious belief.

The difference between a Clinical Hypnotherapist and a Hypnotist is the word “therapy” every Hypnotherapist uses hypnosis as a tool to benefit their client.  A Hypnotist never uses therapy.  They are stage performers using hypnosis for entertainment purposes only.

Everyone can by hypnotised except:-

  • Those who are intoxicated or under the influence of drugs
  • Those with severe learning difficulties or dementia
  • Those who do not wish to be hypnotised

The Conscious and Subconscious Mind

The Conscious Mind contains our ideas, thoughts and feelings.  It is the critical/analytical part of our brain. It is our sense of humour and our judge.  We use it for reasoning, logic and decision making.

We learn using our conscious mind i.e. we learn to drive using the conscious mind.  At first it seems impossible to remember all the pedals, gear stick and switches – then, as we practice more and more it becomes automatic.  This is when it has fallen into the subconscious mind.

It is represented by the tip of the ice-berg:Iceberg

The Subconscious Mind is said to be 30,000 times more powerful than our conscious mind.  It is represented by the main body of the iceberg.  It contains all the material and memories that can be easily recalled.

It is your autopilot, your intuition and your protector – no one can commit suicide by holding their breath – your subconscious won’t let you!  It is your filing cabinet and photo album.  All of your habits are held in the subconscious.

The subconscious mind does not question or judge - if it accepts a suggestion or a fact then it will be stored and acted upon accordingly.

This is where all your beliefs and mental coping strategies are controlled and so this is where we take you in HYPNOSIS.
